Construction House Tour

Oh, yesterday was Monday? Oh well - a day late and a few thousand dollars short.

My camera cord is STILL M.I.A. - which is a bummer, because it had all my "before" photos on it.  But, I have a new phone now, and the camera (so far) works 100% of the time, so we are in business.

And there's been a ton of progress having only moved in just over 2 weeks ago!  No longer are we eating with our plates on a plant stand while sitting on a loveseat in the kitchen!  (We're up to a coffee table in the living room now!)

ORB-ed door handles
Instead of re-keying the locks, we opted for brand new door handles, since the old deadbolts needed a key from both directions (I hate those! What is the point? Aren't they a fire hazard?!).  We went with oil rubbed bronze, replacing the brass.  Then we just used my favorite spray paint to do the interior door handles.  It automatically made the rooms feel more into this decade!  We still have several hinges to paint... but that can wait.

Painted the trim
OK - we actually paid to have this done.  The original trim was a weird yellowy-tan color, but close enough to white it looked like a mistake, especially against the white walls.  It took 2 painters one day to do all the trim and doors in the house.  I couldn't believe the difference!  (These pictures are on my camera)

Took out the carpet
Aesthetically speaking, right now this hasn't made an improvement (the subfloor isn't very pretty), but in the cleanliness it has (yes, even though clutter is EVERYWHERE).  But living on a subfloor is getting old.
Hey! Wood stairs!

Tiled the living room, laundry room, and half bath
We have a looooong way to go, but we have one room that is livable! I will give more of the gritty DIY details in a later post.  Laundry and bath started out as linoleum, the living room was carpet.

Started painting the walls
But haven't finished a single room.  Believe it or not, this was mainly just to make the place feel cleaner - I painted over the dirt stuck to the walls in the bedroom and living areas, and over the pee splatter on the bathroom wall.  I'm not kidding.

As you can see, the place is a mess.  It's hard to put things away though when you know you'll have to move it when the new floor goes in!  I think we finally have a plan for upstairs, but before we decide, I would love to know ya'll's feelings on carpet in bedrooms, the master bedroom, stairs, and hallways (the alternative being wood).

Thanks and happy TUESDAY.
