Friday Favorites 6/13/14

It's Friday the thirteenth and a full moon! We'd rather stay inside and hide from bad luck and superstition all day, but we're very important grown ups so we can't. Enjoy this favorites list from the comfort of your computer chair!

Emma's Favorites
Minwax Fast-Drying Polurethane GLOSSY
I love this stuff so, so much.  I just used it on my most recent project, and it makes me sad I ever dabbled with less glossy finishes.  I haven't had any problems with air bubbles (knock on wood!) and I even applied this with a foam brush (gasp!).  I love how shiny and smooth the surface is.  Plus, it dries verrrry quickly (like an hour in this heat) and it's ready to recoat in about 3 hours.  That means I can do all 3 coats in one day - I am LOVIN IT.  Buy it here!

Lemi-Shine
Cloudy on the left, newly Lemi-Shined
on the right!
I've been spoiled all my life with normal water.  Then I moved to New Mexico where there is a general lack of
water all the time.  I have no idea where our drinking water comes from, but I do know it is inferior.  That chalky feeling when you wash your hair? Hard water.  That scale in the sink? Lime deposits. But perhaps the one that created the biggest inconvience is the filmy residue on glassware.  That is, until a coworker told me about Lemi-Shine!  Whereas I could soak my dishes in vinegar to remove the cloudy scales, Lemi-Shine is so much more convenient - just pour some in the dishwasher before you run it.  I noticed a difference the very first time! Definitely making this a standard item in my kitchen.

Diana's Favorites
Phil Kaye's "Repetition"
I hate it when writers create protagonists who are writers, but I love it when writers write about their love of words. Phil Kaye's "Repetition" is a beautiful poem about the power of words and his childhood struggle with his parents' divorce. Kaye's arresting delivery accompanied by the beautifully shot video make me happy artistic collaborations and the Internet exist. "Repetition" is a poem is meant to be performed and heard, not read silently. Check it out for yourself here!

Raimée
Raimée merch!
I have a lot of cool friends who do a lot of cool things, but my friend Rei is definitely one of the coolest by far. She started her own band, Raimée, when we were still in undergrad. The band has been restructured a few times, but Rei's artistic vision and spirit has been present through each incarnation. The whole band is incredibly talented, and I'm not just saying that because they're my friends... they've become pretty successful on the indie-metal scene. They count Evanescence, Flyleaf, and Coheed and Cambria among their influences, so if you're into good music, give Raimée a listen! Then head over to Facebook to check out some of their recent photos and for a list of upcoming shows. They're even better live! Like what you hear? Throw Rei a vote in the Carolina Music Awards--she's nominated for Best Rock Female. Want even more Raimée? Their first full-length album is dropping this fall courtesy of Crushing Skulls Records.

Happy Friday!
